CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Ballet

A highly technical and classical dance form characterized by grace and precision of movement and by elaborate formal gestures, steps, and poses. In order to become proficient at ballet dance, one must be extremely dedicated to the art and diligent in regard to practice and rehearsal time.

Lyrical

A dance style that blends ballet and jazz dance. Lyrical is generally smoother and a bit faster than ballet, but not quite as fast as jazz. A lyrical dancer uses movement to express strong emotions such as love, joy and anger.

Tap

A Style of American theatrical dance using precise rhythmical patterns of foot movement and audible foot tapping. Students will need to have tap shoes to be a part of this class. Dancers in this program will be introduced to a variety of dance and movement concepts, vocabulary, and proper technique in a fun, up-beat environment with age-appropriate music.

Hip Hop

Hip-hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music. Dancers in this program will learn variety of popping and locking techniques and movement concepts in a fun, up-beat environment with age-appropriate music.

​

Jazz

Portrayed by athletic, thrilling, commanding energy and movement of the dancers. Examples of this dance style in everything from old movie musicals like 'West Side Story' and 'Guys and Dolls' to the back-up dancers for popular musical artists.
